Weekend Run-around

31.10.11

This weekend was spent savoring every moment together as a family. It was beautiful.  Our family seems to do things a little differently then others. We run errands all together. Grocery shopping, going to the bank, Dr's appointments even. Yes, it would be much easier for either Jeremy or I to stay home while the other runs out. Yes, it would probably cut the time it takes in half or more, but that would mean time spent apart. Someone would be missing out on something. So whenever possible, we go together.

This weekend we went to Costco. Went out to eat. Walked on Whyte Ave. Napped. Went swimming. Watched movies. Went to Ikea. Lowes. Walmart. Superstore. Went to a halloween carnival at the golf course my Step Dad lives at golfs at. Rode on golf carts. Played. Laughed. Had time outs. Sleepless nights. Took LOTS of pictures..

I did dress the kids up I promise. Houston had a little puppy jacket that I never actually put on him, but I did bring it along. Sienna was a cowgirl which I think you can see. Coen wanted to be a skateboarding superhero. It is hard to tell considering he took off his cape and didn't carry his skateboard around. We tried.
We had a great weekend. My husband is back to work tomorrow after his time off. It has been nice having him around all the time, but it will also be nice to get back into routine. Maybe we will sleep sometime soon? That would be nice!

Sienna prayed yesterday, "Dear Jesus, please can I have a loose tooth and a baby girl. Amen."
I love her..

Bobo, our monkey

29.10.11

Meet Bobo

He has been around for a long time. Since Sienna was around 9 months old actually. We found this little monkey when we took a family trip to the mountains. I think my husband and I are just as fond of him as Sienna. When she went through a short phase where she preferred another stuffed monkey over Bobo we panicked. We totally forced Bobo back into his #1 position and the other monkey mysteriously disappeared..

Well, last weekend when we took our day trip to Calgary we of course brought Bobo with along for the ride. He waited in the van while we went to church there. When we went out for lunch with some Calgarian friends Sienna made sure to bring Bobo in for some Vietnamese food! We had such a nice visit and were caught up in conversation even as we left the restaurant.

We were probably 30 minutes away from home (about 2-1/2 hours away from our starting point) when Sienna piped up from the back seat asking where her beloved monkey was. As soon as she said it, I knew. We left him behind!! I had seen him on the ground under Sienna's chair at the restaurant and never thought to pick him up thinking Sienna would be sure to remember.

As soon as we walked into our house Jeremy text our friends we had lunch with, and he agreed to check if Bobo was still to be found where we had left him. Such a weight was lifted the next day when we heard that Bobo was safe with our friend. We asked if they could mail him to us, but little did we know that we would be blessed beyond belief with what arrived a few days later!

I wish I would've gotten a picture of the box. It was adressed to Sienna and she was so thrilled! I remember how exciting it was when I was young to receive my very own mail!

We opened the box and there was our special Bobo. Sienna was gleaming!

Coen was pretty excited for his sister!

But there was more.. A letter from our friends..
As I read it aloud to the kids their excitement was tangible. Their enthusiasm even made me giddy!

I am not sure why, but I was so close to crying while reading this. The thoughtfulness of our friends combined with the joy on my children's faces was almost too much for me!
I think this was the kids' favorite part..

Sienna is glad to have her buddy back. So are we. He is one special monkey. We will have to keep a closer eye on him..

What a great memory..

Favorite Fridays - Signs

28.10.11

I am not usually one to like signs with words and sayings. Normally, I find them to be a little on the corny side. Lately though, my taste seems to be leaning on the rustic/country side, which itself is corny so I might as well hang some signs in my house to take me all the way. I stumbled upon some creative signs while browsing Etsy today. I could have ordered quite a few, but I think it would be easy to go overboard with the signage in a house.. Less is more in this case!

At first it didn't clue in what the numbers meant..{shhh..} This is so wide open! You could put your wedding date, a child's birthday, your dogs birthday, any special day you want to commemorate!

I love these 'family rules' signs.. So unexpected and fun! I think I would like to come up with our own 'family rules' and have a sign custom made which many of these shops are willing to do. It just makes it even more personal.

This one is my favorite by far! We all know well the saying, "Jesus loves me this I know." I actually like this version of it better!

So true, so amazing.. I think this may have inspired my next project. Stay tuned...

Rabbit Trails..

27.10.11

Hop in the car. Many errands to run. No kids. GO..
Driving down a very familiar road, I look off to the right and spot a structure I have never noticed before.
I only have an hour. I shouldn't stop.
I get into the left hand turning lane, put on my signal, and sit a wait at the red light.
That is so cool.. How have I never seen that before..
I never do anything spontaneous.
Do it.
Done.
Get out of the turning lane and instead head straight. Off to find this beauty..

I couldn't seem to find a road that would get me closer to it. I drove in a big circle around it and this was the closest I found myself.
Still worth it?
Yes.
I will go back..
Hopefully before the snow falls!

Errands done. Hour is more than up. Heading home.
Are you serious?
I turn around and pull over into a parking lot.
I know I am late, but I can't miss this..

It was flying quite low.. I can't imagine what would possess anyone to want to climb into a little basket and trust a balloon to carry them hundreds of feet off of the ground. I would never be found in one. I do love watching them though, so I am glad that there are some just crazy enough to fly around suspended by a little fabric and hot air..

October's Best

26.10.11

I was challenged to look through all of the pictures I have taken this month and pick my favorite. Is it strange that I felt guilty even thinking of picking one that was not of my kids? I really loved the shots I got of the sunset which you can see here, but in the end I had to pick this one of Coen. It was taken on his 3rd birthday. He looks like such a big boy, and it just epitomizes his personality. Silly and sweet!

Sunny Sunsets

I am feeling guilty about my quicky post yesterday. You guys deserve more than that :) I wanted to come by today and blow you all away except I can't quite conjure up exactly the best way to do that.. I have come to realize that words aren't always necessary. Sometimes a beautiful sunset can knock my socks off faster than any witty words or funny stories.

These are from the same evening just about half an hour later..

Thanks for reading everyone. I really am truly grateful for all the encouragement I have received..

Fabric Flowers - Road Trip - Instagram

24.10.11

I have officially survived my solo craft adventure! Remember these?

Well, I used them to make these..

We celebrated the birthdays of 3 special people this weekend, and I wanted to create something unique for 2 of them (I didn't think the 2 year old would appreciate it as much so we got her an alphabet puzzle).

I found the idea for fabric flowers on Pinterest. Seriously, if you want some creative ideas, it is the place to be. I have always loved mason jars used as vases so this was the perfect combination!

The flowers are so simple. NO SEWING REQUIRED.. Thank goodness!! All you need is some fabric and fabric glue.. I found a great tutorial here..

I am happy with how they turned out! Not so happy with how my pictures of them turned out, but you get the point..

We made a day trip to Calgary yesterday. The only pictures I took were out the car window while driving there. Oops!

Monday seemed like a good day to upload some of my phone pics. You can find me on Instagram also if you like.. (my user name is Brandy Jane Mabel)
